
Gary West (75) of Sidney BC, died on November 21, 2024. He served 35 years as a highly respected police officer, retiring in 2005 as Deputy Chief of the Delta Police Department. He was described by colleagues as a disciplined, ethical, value-based leader, an outstanding operational police officer and a loyal friend.
After retiring, his activities included teaching high speed driving, obtaining his private pilot’s license, flying a small plane from the southern US to the Arctic, and racing an open-wheel Formula Ford. A devoted and supportive father and husband, he is survived by his sons Robert and Stephen, step-children Derek and Diana, and wife Ann.

I am so very sorry to hear the sad news of Gary’s passing.
My sincere sympathy & condolences to you Ann & to all the family.
I recall Gary & his straight tall stature that was worthy of his profession. I remember his voice & laughter that had us all laughing. I remember his passion for boating & involvement in the island community.
I also remember his love of you Ann & his family.
Gary was an outstanding police officer. He was committed to keeping his community (Delta) and surrounding communities safe. Gary was a great friend. He was very highly respected both personally and professionally.
Gary West was a value based leader. He was very trustworthy and an honest man. He was a wise man, of great courage and integrity You could always count on Gary for his word and his support. He will be missed.
