Ian MacLeod was born in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan on October 12, 1943. He grew up in Aklavik, NWT, Hay River, Peace River and Edmonton, Alberta. He studied Electronic Technology at NAIT (Northern Alberta Institute of Technology.) He was an Air Cadet and subsequently joined RAF in Ottawa where he also earned his degree as a Certified Public Accountant. Ian worked with the Department of Indian Affairs with the Federal Government until his retirement in 1996. He moved to White Rock, BC to be with family, and later to Salt Spring Island. He needed to be busy, so he volunteered at the Salt Spring Public Library and became trainer of volunteers there for several years.
Ian was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease and after many difficult years, but with excellent care provided at Saanich Peninsula Hospital over his final two years. He died March 12, 2026.

Ian was a special person with whom I had a developed a personal connection. He was a thinker – although some may suggest a bit of a “stinker” – but aren’t we all?
It was a privilege getting to know him over the last 3 decades of his life. The impression he has left will always be with me.

Keith, Marilyn and family, our sincerest heartfelt condolences to you on the passing of Ian. Wishing you peace and comfort. Holding you close in our thoughts and prayers. Rest in peace, Ian.
I’m so sorry to learn of Ian’s passing. We go back so many years and I enjoyed meeting with Ian and his mother in White Rock for lunch.
We also used to exchange Christmas Cards and his newsy message was always the same, “Ian”.
We grew up in Parkview Edmonton and I have many fond memories of those carefree days. Years later when we moved to the Sault Ian drove from Ottawa for Christmas with us in 1979. I also remember visiting him in Ottawa with his significant other whose name I cannot for the life of me remember. Later they would visit us in Edmonton on their driving trip west, probably in his classic Supra.
Ian was a gentleman and a scholar and good friend. It sad to learn that he has passed and may he rest in peace.

My deepest condolences to the family of Ian as they mourn his passing. I cherish many fond memories of the times we shared growing up in west Edmonton. Especially poingnant are those of the New Years Eve card games. My freshest memory is of the lunch visit I and my then new partner Lynne shared with Ian and Keith in White Rock the fall of 2003.
As our good mutual friend Bob Scott has already said; Ian was, in fact a scholar and most certainly a gentleman.
Rest in Peace good a true friend.
